I've been working and living in central London for 2 years now, and I've only just started going on holidays... well long weekend getaways really... and one of the things that I've been looking for is sustainable swimwear.

The demand for polyester has been exponential over the years; in 1980, the demand was "only" 5.3 million tonnes globally but by 2000 the demand had grown to 19.2 million tonnes.
In 2014, the demand had surged to 46.1 million tonnes. To put this into perspective, the total fibre demand (includes cotton, silk amongst others) was 55.7 million tonnes - so polyester takes up to 73.4% of the whole fibre/fabric market! Packing for your holiday can be stressful - there's so many variables to consider... but have you ever thought about taking a capsule wardrobe with you?
After speaking to a few amazing people over the last couple of weeks, I thought it would be good to start a monthly "spotlight" feature.
For this, I'll be interviewing individuals from all different backgrounds, from farmers to designers, to really get to grips with ethical standards in different industries. So, for the first ever "In the Spotlight' feature, I asked Hannah Price, founder of Willowknd some questions! What a stunning weekend we're having in the UK at the moment! Anyway, I thought it would be apt to write about some of things I've been up to :)
I first went to the London Expo 2018: International Garments & Fabrics Trade Fair. Although I'm not a buyer, I thought it would be interesting to meet some of the people who make a vast amount of our clothes and find out what their sales pitches are like! In my quest to keep finding new and exciting ethical and sustainable fashion brands (mainly clothing, but the odd accessory too!), I thought it would be a good idea to start a blog post that lists them all. It will be on-going and added to as and when I find somewhere new!
Please also comment your favourite brands if I've missed them :D To cheer me up on this gloomy, wet day in London, I thought I'd put together my top 10 wardrobe wants for spring & summer. #10We all know that spring and summer in England is never quite as good as we hope. So for those chillier days, I love this jumper from Gung Ho.
Fashion Revolution held an event at the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising in London during Fashion Revolution Week (FRW). I've been looking forward to this event the whole week, and was so excited when I woke up that morning - so much so I woke up at 6am! Although I wasn't lucky enough to stay the entire day, I did manage to speak to many of the brands, makers and suppliers that were there. Here's a list of some the people I managed to speak to: BeloAlthough Jasper Highet isn't taking part in any Fashion Revolution Week events, I do think it's a company that needs to be known!
I've had one of their belts for over a year now and wear it every time I wear a pair of jeans... which is pretty much every day! However, to begin to understand the unique qualities of this belt, I better start at the beginning. It's been a whirlwind of a journey over the last 7 days; not only has the blog reached more readers than I ever expected possible but I also found out about the work of Fashion Revolution.
So, as it's currently Fashion Revolution Week (FRW), I made a pledge to attend as many events as possible, and as we're just over halfway through... here's the first blog about it! |
