There's a lot of debate about sunscreen and it's confusing.... How often should I apply sunscreen? Is chemical sunscreen safe? Should I use mineral sunscreen? Or I not use sunscreen at all? Mineral (can also be known as "Physical") Sunscreen Usually made from titanium dioxide or zinc oxide which sit on the skin to create a block. Pro's:
Chemical Sunscreen Made from chemical compounds such as oxybenzone and avobenzone. Many of which have been linked to hormone disruption (according to EWG research). Pros:
Another issue that has fairly recently come to light is that using sunscreen reduces, if not eliminates, the ability of our bodies to make Vitamin D. Something to consider, but I'm certainly not condoning not using sunscreen. So what's best? For me, mineral sunscreen wins by far but I also try to be as covered up as possible (with natural, breathable fabrics) and to stay in the shade, avoiding the mid-day sun.
